Changes Coming to Applications and Peer Review in January 2025

by CIbarra | Apr 4, 2024 | NIH News

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is implementing several changes affecting grant applications due on or after January 25, 2025, aimed at simplifying, clarifying, and ensuring fairness in the application and review process. They’ve released a comprehensive guide notice summarizing these changes and will provide further details through webinars and informational materials. Changes include simplified review criteria for research project grants, revisions to fellowship application processes to focus on candidate readiness and reduce bias, updates to reference letter guidance, modifications to NRSA training grant applications to enhance diversity and mentor training, and the introduction of updated application forms (FORMS-I) and Common Forms for biographical sketches and other support disclosures. NIH aims to facilitate understanding and adaptation to these changes through centralized resources and ongoing communication.
